President’s Message April

Spring Events:  Best wishes for a productive spring! I’m planning on burning some calories in the herb garden and walking around the neighborhood.  Are you like me?  I love watching local plants bloom, especially after the long winter’s thaw. Each week, nature provides a fresh backdrop.

Our Corporate Partnership Council (CPC) partner, Atrion, has generously offered to host a tour of their Warwick facility for our collegiates who are especially interested in computer science and networking systems on Thursday, April 9th at 2:00.  Also, General Dynamics/ Electric Boat is hosting a collegiate Quonset Point tour on Friday, April 17th at 12:30. If you would like to facilitate, please let me know.  These tours help introduce our SWE collegiates to high quality employment opportunities right where we live, and NESS is helping out CPCs by introducing them to our very capable engineering students.

K-12 outreach activities are in full swing this spring, too. Engineers to the Rescue for Girl Scouts in grades 6 – 8 is planned for the April 10th weekend.  This month alone I plan to participate in a Future Cities elementary Science Day, and judge the high school FIRST robotics competition and an Invention Convention. Here’s my challenge to you: how can you share STEM with others and help change the course of their lives?
