Girl Scout Badge Workshops
Science Sleuth and Science Discovery Badges

SWE-NESS coordinates and conducts annual workshops in the RI/CT regions to help young girls earn science badges. We received a letter of recognition from the Rhode Island Girl Scout Council thanking us for our time and effort in helping approximately 800+ girls receive their badges since 1994. Volunteers are always needed! For more information, see the Career Guidance page.

Local Women's Shelters

Donations are collected prior to the Christmas season to help amazing women and children bounce back from hard times. A new "Reaching Out" program is coming soon.

Newton's Gig Course using - Kits In Teaching Elementary Science....
"A WORLD IN MOTION"

As part of the East Bay Collaborative KITES program and West Bay GEMS-Net program, NESS members guide teachers in how to relay Newton's Laws to their students through hands-on experiments. The types of activities performed have also been used as a basis for an annual competition organized by SWE-NESS for the elementary students of the KITES and GEMS-Net schools to kick off National Engineers Week.

SWE-NESS'S 10th Anniversary
In August of 1987 a group of eight women from Southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island met to discuss the possibility of chartering a new SWE section.  The group first organized themselves as a satellite of the Connecticut Section.  Their hard work, and the work of many others who joined them in the following months, finally led to the chartering of the New England Shoreline Section in May of 1989.
