Newsletter Editor

Are you creative? Have knowledge in MS Powerpoint and HTML? This job is for you!

  • Responsible for layout, accuracy and timeliness of the SWE-NESS newsletter
  • Compile articles from officers and committee chairs
  • Follow SWE national newsletter awards criteria for minimum content
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours/month

Membership Committee

  • Maintain membership records of the Section
  • Maintain the membership list servers
  • Disseminate membership information based on inquiry and solicitation
  • Administer membership enhancement programs
  • Coordinate a member retention program
  • Time Commitment: 8-10 hours/month

Fund Development Committee

  • Maintain and enhance Section funding
  • Maintain inventory of SWE-NESS boutique items
  • Time Commitment: 6-8 hours/month

Archives Committee

  • Responsible for preserving the history of SWE-NESS
  • Maintain newsletters, meeting information, event information, correspondence and reports
  • Update and maintain the Section Scrapbook
  • Maintain the SWE-NESS Library
  • Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/month

Outreach – Library Outreach Subcommittee

This event is an outreach to school and public libraries to set up book displays in engineering and related technical fields and biographies during the month of February to promote National Engineers Week.

  • Solicit volunteers via email (Oct)
  • Order E-Week materials (Dec)
  • Finalize library list & volunteers (Dec-Jan)
  • Provide member volunteers and libraries without a member POC with E-Week library packets (late Jan)
  • Create E-Week Certificates as thank you to volunteers
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours

Outreach – Be an Engineer Workshop Subcommittee

This event takes place either the Saturday before or after National Engineers Week in February at the Providence Children’s Museum. It is our E-Week kick-off event for the general public.

  • Check supply inventory (Jan/early Feb)
  • Solicit volunteers from members (Jan/early Feb)
  • Provide volunteer names to Providence Children’s Museum contact, along with room setup and arrival time (Feb)
  • Write article publicizing event and give to NESS Communications Chair for newspapers
  • Set up room and coordinate with volunteers
  • Email thanks to volunteers with numbers of participants
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours

Outreach – High School Certificate of Achievement Subcommittee

  • Send congratulatory letter to past year Cert of Achievement recipients (Nov)
  • Send information letter to the high schools (HS) (Feb)
  • Obtain President’s signature on certificates (Mar)
  • Get calligraphy done for names on certificates (Mar-June)
  • Send or present certificates to HS responders (Apr-June)
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours

Outreach – Girl Scout (GS) Workshops (RI) Subcommittee

There are two workshops in RI that SWE-NESS is responsible for running, one in November at URI and one in early Feb at RWU.

  • Request volunteers from URI & RWU (2 weeks before event)
  • Acquire badges from GSRI Council
  • Check station supplies and replenish if necessary
  • Obtain registration list from GSRI Council (week of event)
  • Collect evaluations from GS attendees at event end
  • Email volunteer thanks with summary of evaluations & numbers
  • Email GSRI Council actual numbers of girls and adults in troops that attended event
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours

Outreach – Girl Scout (GS) Senior Leadership Conference Subcommittee

This event takes place on a Saturday in March at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. There are four 75-minute sessions that SWE-NESS is responsible for running. The attendees are high school Girl Scouts from New Jersey to Maine.

  • Verify session descriptions with EC/session managers (Nov)
  • Provide conference coordinator with session descriptions (Nov)
  • Obtain latest presentations from session managers to put on laptop (week of event)
  • Collect evaluations from GS attendees at session end
  • Email volunteers thanks after event with summary of evaluations
  • Time Commitment: 20 hours
