Engineering Your Tomorrow Girl Scout SWE Badge Workshop
Saturday, February 6 – 9 to noon
Engineering Bldg, Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI

Professionals are asked to help the RWU Collegiate Section students in running the hands-on activity stations for this fun Junior Girl Scout badge workshop. The SWE badge is a Oregon Council badge with lots of engineering activities! Stations include: Electical (flashlight circuit), Mechanical (rolling toy), Civil (newspaper tower), Mechanical (simple machines & Rube Goldberg machines), Materials (egg bungee jump), Engineering Solutions (collage of engineering pictures). Contact Sue Anderson by 1 February if you are interested in helping. All materials are supplied – we just need you!

Directions: From Massachusetts and points northeast: Take Route 24 South to Exit 3 (Boyd’s Lane/Bristol/Mt. Hope Bridge). Bear right at the end of the exit ramp onto Boyd’s Lane. Continue straight up hill to light. Continue straight across Mt. Hope Bridge. Campus is on your right; turn right after sign to main entrance.
From Providence and points northwest: Take Route I-95 to Providence. Take Route I-195 East to Massachusetts Exit 2 (Warren/Newport RI, Route 136 South). Follow 136 South for approximately nine miles. Campus is on your left; make a U-turn, just before Mt. Hope Bridge, to main entrance.
From CT and points south: Take Route I-95 North to Providence. Take Route I-195 East to Massachusetts Exit 2 (Warren/Newport RI, Route 136 South). Follow 136 South for approximately nine miles. Campus is on your left; make a U-turn, just before Mt. Hope Bridge, to main entrance.
From Newport: Take Route 114 North (West Main Road) to light at Mt. Hope Bridge/Boyd’s Lane (Mt. Hope Animal Hospital is on the right). Turn left across Mt. Hope Bridge. Campus is on your right; turn right after sign to main entrance.


National Engineers Week February 14-20, 2010

Directions: From I-95 North or South:Take airport exit (Exit 13). Follow signs for Post Road (U.S. Rt. 1). Turn right onto Post Road south; 1 mile. Julian B. Gouse Warwick Campus is on the left.


Be an Engineer Workshop
Saturday, February 20 – 12 to 3 PM
Providence Children’s Museum, Providence, RI

Come help teach kids about engineering during National Engineers Week! There are five hands-on engineering activity stations that need to be run: mechanical (pulley systems), electrical (conductivity), chemical (oobleck), software (programming the human robot – you!) and civil (building a tower). Contact Sue Anderson by 10 Feb if you are interested in helping the next generation learn about our profession. It’s a fun time for everyone!

Directions: From CT and points west: Take I-95 North to Exit 18 (Thurbers Ave.) and turn right onto Eddy St. Continue straight on Eddy St. until it intersects with Point St. Turn left onto Point St. and right onto Hospital St. to Museum.
From north of Providence: Take I-95 South to Exit 19 (Eddy St.) and turn right. Go straight on Eddy St. through one set of lights. Turn left onto South St. to Museum.
From Newport and points east: Take either Rte. 138 (East Main Road) or 114 (West Main Road) North to Rte. 24 North. Bear left, taking I-195 West (Providence) to Exit 2 (South Main St.) and take the first left onto James St. Turn left onto South Water St. and continue under the highway. Turn right onto Point St. and cross the Point Street Bridge. Continue straight through two intersections. Turn right onto Hospital St. to Museum.

What You Don't Know Will Hurt You

Senior Management System Specialist Robert Mandes of Electric Boat will speak on electronic information security at 6:30 PM. Prior to the presentation, you can network with others starting at 5 PM while eating hors d'oeuvres.

Due to security regulations, you must be a U.S. citizen and provide a photo ID upon entry to Electric Boat. Contact Kimberly McLean by February 16 if you want to attend this event.

Directions: From RI: Take I-95 South to Exit 87/Rte. 349/Clarence B. Sharpe (left exit). Turn right at second light onto Rainville Avenue. Follow to end and turn right onto Eastern Point Road. Visitor Parking is on the right (Technology Center is on left). Proceed to the gate and get a badge from the guard.
