The SWE-NESS Certificate of Achievement award was the first outreach program established. It was developed to honor high school students who excel in mathematics and science, and to encourage them to consider engineering as a career option.
There are currently 73 high schools in the SWE-NESS area that are solicited yearly for their participation in this award program. Each participating high school may select one female and one male student to receive this award. Students must be in their junior year of study, must have demonstrated ability in mathematics and science, should have expressed interest in pursuing a career in engineering or other related technical field and is active in school and community affairs.
In 2006, we awarded 81 certificates to students at 40 schools, with 16 of the awards presented by a SWE-NESS member. In 2007, we awarded 64 certificates to students at 38 schools, with 14 of the awards presented by a member.
