Season of Revitalization
Beth Lavoie – NESS President
We all know the famous springtime rhyme ‘April showers, bring May flowers!‘
April is a time of year when the earth wakes up again. We are coming out of the dark days of winter and into the greenery of spring and summer! Ahhh! April always reminds me of new beginnings and new possibilities on the horizon.
SWE-NESS also takes part in this spirit of revitalization. April is the month that we announce our new slate of officers for the upcoming FY13 year. Yes, we are still in the midst of the hustle and bustle of FY12 events and enjoying what the rest of this year has to offer, but we are also planning ahead. We announce our newly appointed officers in May, after voting is completed.
So one might say that NESS’s April has showers of volunteers and nominations, which brings a May that is flowering with future leaders. Okay, okay… corny, I know! But did it get your attention? It might not be too late to volunteer yourself or nominate a fellow member for a leadership position. Discuss your nomination ideas with Michele Fitzpatrick by April 10th.
SWE-NESS officer positions offer skill-building opportunities that you might not be able to cultivate in your current career situation. The experience you gather in these leadership roles can enhance many different aspects of your life. An added bonus to all this skill building is that you can help a cause you already believe in… SWE!
I encourage members to seize the opportunities that NESS offers! I challenge you to find a facet of SWE-NESS that stimulates you! That might mean an officer position, a committee chair or co-chair position, or just attending and supporting NESS events that piques your interest. NESS volunteer work may fill that professional void you have been seeking.
