A New President!

Dear Members of SWE-NESS,
Welcome to our new Fiscal Year, FY13! We had an amazing FY12 filled with exciting Outreach, Professional Development and social networking activities and events. All of this was made possible by our members. I would like to personally thank the FY12 officers and volunteers for organizing and planning these events throughout the year. To the FY12 President, Beth Lavoie, thank you for your marvelous leadership.

NESS, thank you for electing me as your new President. I plan to serve you well. Let’s begin with a celebration! Congratulations to the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) for being reinstated as an official Collegiate Section!!! Michele Fitzpatrick worked with this section for many months to help with this initiative. The USCGA built their membership and organized a very well-attended Professional Development seminar. Congratulations again to Michele and to the CGA. We look forward to meeting and networking our new members.

For this year, I know we will continue to offer outstanding events and activities. I encourage you to let us know of any workshops, seminars or other types of events you would like our section to offer. What would you like to do? Where would you like go? What would you like to learn about? We do plan to offer another tri-section event this year! Please stay tuned for updates. We invite you all to attend our Executive Council meetings which will continue to be held each month. We will begin with the summer planning meeting, currently planned for July or August. Our calendar will be updated with the specific date, time and location once we have confirmed our plans.

In the meantime, enjoy your summer! I look forward to seeing you at our summer meeting on 25 August.
