Welcome to the Society of Women Engineers
New England Shoreline Section
The New England Shoreline Section of the Society of Women Engineers is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE-NESS members are pioneers, advocates and mentors who support the professional journey and are impacting the future of engineering and technology.
SWE-NESS members live or work in Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut and we have four collegiate sections: Brown University, Roger Williams University, the Coast Guard Academy and University of Rhode Island.
We are an active group, with regular meetings and ongoing educational programs for youth of all ages. You don’t have to be an engineer or a woman to be active in SWE.

Volunteers Needed for Connecticut Invention Convention Judging!
SWE-NESS will participate in the annual Connecticut Invention Convention in collaboration with SWE-Hartford. We need volunteers to join us in judging the 15 to 30 projects that will be assigned to SWE-NESS and choosing 1 invention to win our award. SWE-Hartford plans to provide the list of inventions in late April. Volunteer judges will access the videos and documents for each invention assigned to them. This will require getting an account in the CIC judging platform. Judges will be asked to score each invention based on a rubric and submit the scores to the SWE-NESS coordinator. Judging is very interesting because the students are so enthusiastic about their inventions. Please contact Donna Matthews at treas@sweness.org if you would like to volunteer or have additional questions.
Volunteer for a Hands On STEM Workshop
Email Kim at gsworkshops@sweness.org if you are interested.
1. Volunteer needed to lead the workshop in Warwick and schedule the time with the Library. Hopefully this would be someone who attended the training in January. They are looking to do this in the summer on a Thursday or Friday during the day or potentially evenings on Monday-Wednesday. This may turn into a three workshop series.
2. Volunteers needed for the Warwick event as they are looking at having 20 participants.
3. We have eight workshops planned in Connecticut. Kim will be leading these but would like to have one or two volunteers to help. If you have taken training, great, if not this is a good opportunity to see how these workshop go and learn “On the Job”. See the list below and let Kim know if you are interested in helping for any of these.
